MiFi for 4G and 5G

✔ ZTE MU5120 is a portable hotspot for 4G and 5G, also called MiFi. It supplies nearby devices with Internet by connecting to the mobile network via the 4G and 5G standards. The Snapdragon X62 modem from Qualcomm is installed for this purpose.

✔ The device supports 5G SA (standalone) and NSA (non-standalone) as well as 4G LTE FDD and TDD Category 22, enabling particularly fast mobile Internet wherever the networks are sufficiently developed and one of the numerous 4G and 5G frequencies is available. However, only sub-6 GHz and not mmWave is supported.

✔ The router uses 4x4MIMO with up to five frequencies ( 5CA ) in 4G and uses 256QAM modulation for downloading and sending. According to the manufacturer, this enables a maximum data rate of 3.8 Gbit/s. A nano SIM card with a corresponding tariff must be inserted . Unfortunately, eSIM is not supported.

Fast Wi-Fi 6

✔ With a well-developed 5G network, the data arrives at the ZTE MU5120 extremely quickly. To ensure that this data can be distributed unhindered to surrounding devices, the hotspot uses the new Wi-Fi 6 WLAN standard . It complies with 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/ax and operates in the two common frequency ranges 2.4 and 5 GHz at up to 3.6 Gbit/s (AX3600). Up to 32 devices can connect to the hotspot, which should be more than sufficient, especially for mobile use.

✔ The usual encryption standards WPA2 and WPA3 ensure security, so that no one can simply log into your own Wi-Fi network without permission. The initial connection setup is quick thanks to optional NFC.

✔ The ZTE MU5120 does not have a network connection. Wired connections are therefore not possible with the portable 5G router . Users also have to do without a telephone function.

Large battery and power bank function

✔ One of the features that makes the ZTE MU5120 5G hotspot stand out is its large battery. This has a capacity of 10,000 mAh and enables more than 16 hours of operation without an external power source. This means the device can be operated for up to two working days away from a power outlet or power bank.

✔ The MU5120 is charged via the USB-C port on the side of the device. The charging speed is up to 27 W, so that the MiFi can be quickly supplied with new energy. The manufacturer states the charging time as 150 minutes. A USB cable is included in the delivery.

✔ The device also functions as a power bank, as it supports Quick Charge QC 4.0 and PD 3.0 as well as reverse charging with up to 18 W. This means that smartphones, etc. can be charged via the USB-A port on the bottom. It goes without saying that this naturally reduces the battery life of the ZTE MU5120.

✔ How full the battery is, how good the reception is or how much data has already been transferred can be read on the small display on the front of the device. This measures 2.4 inches and has a resolution of 320 x 240 pixels. It supports touch inputs for operation. All of this is packed into a device that is relatively light at 240 g and compact at 159 x 73 x 18 mm, which is about the size of a smartphone and can therefore be easily taken anywhere.
